The diatom Achnanthes 40X
As the power rises, live microphotography gets harder, since subject
movement is a real problem. This is a well-aligned diatom on a
commercial stained prepared slide. The fine striae (grooves) visible
on the surface of the frustule (shell) indicate resolution is quite
healthy, and they are easier to examine and count than visually under
the microscope. The Wild Fluotar objective is relatively new, at
around 20 years old. Better objectives are available, but, as we have
previously said, at a price.
